One Minute Video
‘What we did for the World’
2024 – 2025
On May 21st last (2025) 12 schools were invited to Áras an Uachtaráin as guests of President Michael D. Higgins and Sabina Higgins to showcase the Global Citizenship One Minute Video Campaign. Below you will find some photos of the day itself, a compilation video that was shown to the President with clips from all the videos submitted.
As this One-Min. Video campaign is now CLOSED we are encouraging you to continue making and sharing school based GCE videos with your entire school community and post on your school social media.
Why not check out the videos below for ideas!

We include two recent examples of One-Minute Videos submitted for the 2025 One-Minute Video campaign. The first of these is from St. Fiaac’s NS and concerns the moving plight of the Rohingya people and the second is from Castaheany NS and is their informative Newsnight segment.
St Fiaac’s NS – Rohingya
Castaheany ETNS – Newsnight
Why not take some time to check out over 35 of the One-Minute Videos that have been sent to us for consideration for presentation at this year’s event at the Áras. They are from all all over the country (including Northern Ireland) and are representative of all ages attending schools in Ireland. They are indeed truly uplifting! Click below to view.
So What Next?
Our aim at Global Citizenship School is that all school pupils on the Island of Ireland are supported to become Active Global Citizens, committed to building a fairer, more just and more sustainable world for all. We work through the INTO and all our Steering Committee members are either primary school teachers, former teachers / Principals, INTO officials or elected representatives.
This year the E.S.D. (Education for Sustainable Development) section of the Dept. of Education grant-aided us to organise the One Minute Video series and the showcase event in Áras an Uachtaráin and some regional events yet to be decided upon.
Our plan is to have regional showcases in Teacher Training Colleges and/or Teacher Education Centres (ERSI) – in Autumn / Winter 2025 – for local primary schools to meet and share and inspire one another. These will not be competitions or award ceremonies, rather, they are being planned as showcases for sharing ‘scalable’ ideas that hopefully will inspire replication and genuine action in many schools throughout Ireland and hopefully beyond.
Our plan is that wherever we can get 10 or more schools in an area we can then organise ‘Regional ‘Make the World a Better Place’ Showcases. There is quite an amount of organisation involved in this and we in GCS are a voluntary group with no staff, working within the INTO umbrella, so suggestions are most welcome. We can’t get the President of Ireland to attend these regional events but possibly you can get a ‘big name – who will show up at no cost to us’ to add to the events???
The ultimate aim of these showcasing events being to facilitate the empathy and creativity of pupils, teachers and whole school communities into taking real and urgently required SDG actions.
We believe that schools/teachers/pupils making and sharing simple and inspiring one minute videos and promoting their distribution will actually scale up the numbers and quality of SDG actions nationally.
